Ladybug Diaries: A Spot of Luck in the Garden

Ladybug Diaries: A Spot of Luck in the Garden

Hello there, I’m a ladybird – though some might call me a ladybug. I know, the name may sound small, but my role in the garden is mighty. I spend my days quietly cruising over leaves and flower petals, looking for tasty aphids to nibble away. In doing so, I help keep your garden healthy, all while sporting my bright red shell and distinctive black spots – a look that many believe brings a bit of good luck.

I live in warm, green spaces: bustling gardens, wildflower meadows, and even cosy hedgerows. When the weather turns cool, I find sheltered spots among the branches or nestled under leaves, ready to reappear when the sun shines bright again.

There are many of us – with different colours and patterns. Some of my cousins display spots of various sizes, while others might even be orange or yellow. Each one of us plays our part in nature’s grand design, contributing to a balanced ecosystem.

Life isn’t always simple. With fewer wildflowers and the increasing use of garden chemicals, times can be tough. But every little garden can be a haven if we’re given a chance – a patch of native plants, a bit of unmanaged space, a friendly nod from you.

Thank you for taking a moment to listen to my story. Every time you spot a ladybird in your garden, remember that I’m out here doing my bit for the wild.
